Barcelona, 16 December 2016 – ASCAME has participated this week in the Kick-Off Meeting of its new EuroMediterranean project, the InnoBlueGrowth project. The three-day meeting, which took place from 12 to 14 December at the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, set up the basis for the Official Launch of the Innovative Community on Blue Growth in the Mediterranean region next March in Rome, Italy.

Horizontal Communication & Capitalization project for Innovation in Blue Growth at Mediterranean level

This project, INTERREG MED’s InnoBlueGrowth “Horizontal Communication & Capitalization project for Innovation in Blue Growth at Mediterranean level”, led by the National Interuniversity Consortium for Marine Sciences (CoNISMa) and counting on the experiences of the Association of Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME), the Intermediterranean Commission of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR)Plan Bleu, the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), and the University of Montenegro, aims at ensuring the communication and capitalization activities of the “modular” projects dealing with Blue Growth issues in order to increase their impacts towards common identified targets. In the case of the InnoBlueGrowth, these activities are focused on the increase of the transnational activity of innovative clusters and networks of key sectors of the Mediterranean area.

InnoBlueGrowth shall implement concrete actions such as a communication strategy, which will be implemented by ASCAME, to build a real community of modular projects, dealing with Blue Growth. This innovative community will allow the reinforcement of the cross-cutting and integrated approach between modular projects and transnational key stakeholders, which is a sine qua non-condition to support Mediterranean clusters in their transnational activities processes.

MAESTRALE, PELAGOS and PROteuS projects

Three modular projects have been already assigned to InnoBlueGrowth, entitled MAESTRALE, PELAGOS and PROteuS that respectively focus on blue, sustainable energy developments and maritime surveillance for the last one. More modular projects are expected to be assigned to InnoBlueGrowth over the coming years making thus an expanded blue growth community.

Blue Growth is rising as a key sector for the regional businesses, which are strongly increasing their interest in this field and its numerous business opportunities, from yachting to blue energy or maritime surveillance.
