The Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) places investment interest in the wider Piraeus, Lavreotiki, and Western Attica at the center of its development vision, highlighting the strategic importance of the region, as the current year marks a new period of adjustment for the productive and commercial fabric of the wider Piraeus and beyond. This specific time period is seen as a period of adjustment, but also one of significant opportunities, where the resilience of the economy, the cooperation between the public and private sectors, and the targeted development of infrastructure constitute key pillars of sustainable progress.
Particular emphasis is placed on the need to implement critical infrastructure, which can act as a catalyst to strengthen entrepreneurship and the supply chain. In this context, the Piraeus Chamber underlines the importance of developing the gulf of Elefsis, not only as a port and industrial hub, but also as an element of a broader strategic development plan for this geographical area. Such a plan can enhance connectivity, improve the competitiveness of businesses, and attract new investments with a long-term impact. The interest in investing through the American bank “DFC” and the Greek “ONEX” in the port and coastal area of Elefsis confirms the strategic importance of our country. The strategic move of the US to invest in the shipyards in the port of Elefsis was somewhat expected, after the recent energy agreements with our country, while, at the same time, the investment helps in the creation of the new freight center in the area, where the railway connection of Piraeus and Elefsis shipyards with Thriasio is planned.
At the same time, the PCCI is turning its attention beyond the traditional urban and port core of Piraeus, highlighting Western Attica and Lavreotiki as areas with significant development potential. The entrepreneurship of Piraeus, Western Attica, and Lavreotiki has clearly demonstrated that resilience, flexibility, and cooperation are no longer options, but prerequisites for sustainability. The businesses of these areas have proven that with the wealth of the sea, they can respond to successive crises, maintain employment, and support the real economy, even under conditions of intense uncertainty. The evolution of Greek entrepreneurship in these areas is not accidental, but the result of a collective effort to create a stable and friendly investment environment. It is, first and foremost, the fruit of the effort of Greek entrepreneurs who continue to invest, innovate, and move forward.

Data from the General Commercial Registry (G.E.MI.) confirm the strong momentum of local entrepreneurship. In 2025 alone, 1,840 new businesses were registered compared to 487 closures – a solid 4:1 ratio. The majority of new establishments were service companies (842), followed by commercial enterprises (728), manufacturing firms (230) and 70 shipbuilding-related businesses. As a result of this upward trend, PCCI’s membership has reached 19,300 companies for the first time and is expected to surpass 20,000 in the near future. Their financial support, through targeted investments and modern infrastructure, can contribute to the overall balanced development of Attica, creating new jobs and strengthening the regional economy.
Last but not least, Piraeus, historically associated with the seafaring spirit and extroversion, has evolved into a key meeting point for global maritime activity. In the modern international reality, the role of Piraeus is further strengthened through its strategic location in the Mediterranean, the development of the port, and its interconnection with international trade and transport corridors. The Piraeus of tomorrow aspires to be not only a port of international transport but also a center of strategic thinking, cooperation, and maritime excellence. With vision, synergies and consistency, it can further strengthen its international influence and contribute decisively to the development of Greek, European and why not… global shipping.
Within this framework, PCCI seeks to shape a coherent development narrative, which will respond to the challenges of the future and will make the most of the potential of the wider region, while seeking active participation in Euro-Mediterranean forums, and beyond, to promote entrepreneurship. The bar of requirements remains high, as the course of the economy determines domestic entrepreneurship, foreign direct investment and extroversion.
