- Former President, ASCAME
- President, Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount-Lebanon
“The Mediterranean Week of Economic Leaders has become, since its creation 10 years ago, the Mecca of economic development and social progress of the Mediterranean Sea countries.”
ASCAME implies that economic and trade development are instrumental for achieving peace and stability in the Mediterranean region. The Chambers of Commerce and the private sector are those institutions entrusted to promote the economic activity and to enhance cooperation between the businessmen and the economic agents of the countries of both shores of the Mediterranean.
Indeed, the political and economic stability of the Mediterranean region requires the collaboration of the economic agents of both shores of the Mediterranean. Collaboration concentrates mainly to eradicate unemployment in the region, as well as the creation of decent work and the extension of social protection so as to successfully face poverty and exclusion.
In this sense, the Mediterranean Week of Economic Leaders has become, since its creation 10 years ago, the Mecca of economic development and social progress of the Mediterranean Sea countries. From the beginning, conferences, workshops, B2B and round tables in the framework of MedaWeek were driven by the spirit of a strong partnership with all the instruments and platforms working for the regional development and the development of coordinated actions.
I take this opportunity to express my respect and my thanks to the ASCAME General Secretary, its sectorial commissions, as well as to the Chambers of Commerce for their cooperation in MedaWeek activities throughout these years. I would also like to especially thank our invaluable collaborators and all those who have participated in the consortiums of Euro-Mediterranean projects, and actively cooperated in the development of the Mediterranean.
Medaweek celebrates its 10th anniversary reaffirming its commitment to a common Mediterranean future based on a shared space of well-being and comprehension.
