Friday 19 November 2021 saw the end of MedaWeek Barcelona (Mediterranean Economic Leaders Week), the main meeting point for the private sector, where the Mediterranean spirit was in manifest once again. This fifteenth edition included 18 forums, general and thematic sessions, focusing on strategic sectors, actors and countries in the Mediterranean region. MedaWeek also counted on the presence of more than 280 high-level speakers and more than 18,000 participants, mainly businessmen and women from more than 45 countries, who did not miss the annual meeting of the platform with the highest attendance and influence in the Europe-Mediterranean-Africa axis.
Through all these sessions there have been reflections and common demands from strategic sectors as an impactful international claim.
The 9th Mediterranean Green & Renewable Energy Summit put forward the need to have common Mediterranean policies and guidelines for development of renewable energy projects. It has also discussed the challenges and business opportunities for the implication of Renewable Energy Technologies in the Mediterranean Region.
The audio-visual businesses have expressed their concerns on fostering artistic business collaboration though the Mediterranean Creative Economy Forum, to support the emerging audio- visual cultural markets.
The highlights of the 1st Mediterranean Meeting of Agriculture and Food have been the urgency to promote measures to reactivate the agro-food sector and avoid its suffocation. Speakers have underlined the requirement to create new model of sustainable development.
Though the 18th New Africa Business Development Forum new potential areas in trade cooperation, assess the prospects and challenges haven been explored. Putting special emphasis on the urge to create opportunities for financial assistance and access to green and sustainable finance for key infrastructure players.
Thanks to the 6 th Mediterranean Islamic Finance Forum the Islamic finance industry call for an effective guidance and funding to help to facilitate the development of key strategic sectors, including education, healthcare, housing and agriculture, to make progress on developing uniform standards and regulations.
The Barcelona: Capture More Value & New Business Opportunities in Mediterranean session has put in evidence the Barcelona’s role as a business and investment hub and how international companies can leverage the Barcelona platform to capture new business opportunities in the Mediterranean region.
In the 13th Mediterranean Women Entrepreneurs Forum, women entrepreneurs from the Mediterranean have discussed the new steps to fight against policy and regulatory barriers, pave the way to accelerate the access to financing instruments, launch innovative partnerships with the private sector.
In the 5th Mediterranean Hotel & Hospitality Forum prominent speakers have agreed on the requisite to promote cooperation and coordination of a coherent, modern, and efficient Mediterranean tourism market. Moreover, the private sector representatives have claimed that the sector must be prepared for climate change aligned with the UN Development Sustainable Goals.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak, the 1st Mediterranean Cruise Industry Conference has highlighted the consequences of making the cruise industry a safe destination and how to ensure and communicate safety measures in the cruise industry.
The 1st Mediterranean Sport Industry Conference have been supporting a growing sport industry in the region. Improving the role of government, federations, multilateral funds, development agencies brands and the media to support the industry.
