Barcelona, 31 March 2016 – The Coordinator of ASCAME (Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry), Anwar Zibaoui, and the President of FERRMED (Promotion du Grand Axe Ferroviaire de marchandises SScandinavie-Rhin-Rhône-Méditerranée Occidentale), Joan Amorós, met yesterday to follow-up on the work developed together, reaffirming and detailing their similar goals and potential areas of cooperation on the improvement of the interoperability between transport modes of countries around the Mediterranean sea.
Both entities have been working together for years, thereby undertaking joint initiatives in favour of the Mediterranean Corridor and the Euro-Mediterranean Rail Network projects, which would improve trade, commercial and investment relations in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
ASCAME manifested their strong support for the work of FERRMED, insisting on the importance of building more bridges between Europe and the Eastern and Southern Mediterranean, and working on the importance of trade and transportation networks for the economic growth and development of the Mediterranean.
During the meeting, Zibaoui was also briefed on the FERRMED upcoming event in Málaga (Spain) next 13th April, “Development of the FERRMED great railway axis and the rise of a western Mediterranean new core area”, which will be supported and attended by ASCAME. The FERRMED initiative fits in perfectly with the priority-driven by ASCAME on the opportunities of the multimodal transportation networks in the Mediterranean region.
