MEDUSA ENI CBC MED European Project fosters the development and promotion of Mediterranean Sustainable Adventure Tourism, by designing and testing routes and cross-border itineraries that offer improved adventure tourism products, resulting in job creation and income for local communities in the medium and long term, with the potential to reveal lesser-known destinations and attract tourists throughout the year.

Tourism is one of the most affected sectors by the COVID-19 pandemic, since this sector cannot be isolated from the local, national or global context of its operation. Many jobs are being threatened around the world and especially in the Mediterranean region. Nevertheless, tourism is also a key sector that can stimulate inclusive growth, create jobs and SMEs, attract investment and boost the economy.

In that sense, Mediterranean Tourism has a great capacity, an enormous potential to regain the essential place in economies and transform the tourism model into a sustainable and competitive one, addressing current sectorial challenges as the predominance of mass seaside tourism, dependent on the European market and territorial imbalances.

Thus, within the Recovery Plan for and a New Economic Development model for the Mediterranean initiatives, in the framework of the MEDUSA ENI CBC MED project, ASCAME, as one of the project partners, co-organises the “Cross-border Seminar on Mediterranean Adventure Tourism” directed towards Mediterranean tourism SMEs on 16th of March. The aim of this event is to provide insights, exchange ideas for product development and facilitate cross-border and international business links through networking with tourism industry stakeholders from Mediterranean countries.

This activity will consist also in preparing a set of guidelines with existing examples of how Tour Operators working in the Mediterranean region can develop and design tourism products and packages aligned with the SDG, including tourist product sheets illustrating the main elements needed. During this seminar key findings of the Global Market Research & Analysis on Adventure Tourism in the Mediterranean and a destination review of Catalonia (Spain), Lebanon, Tunisia, Jordan and Puglia (Italy) will be also presented.
