- Former President, ASCAME
- President, Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount-Lebanon
“ASCAME and its partners represent the dynamic core of the Mediterranean.”
“Thanks to its constant, tireless effort throughout these years, Barcelona has become the centre of the Mediterranean.”
This is the ninth convention in which senior officials of the public and private sectors meet to discuss major issues affecting the Mediterranean region and collaborate towards defining its future. This particular convention addresses productive activities, the workplace and gender, social and natural environments, Mediterranean cities, North Africa, innovation and ongoing projects. The progress report gauges progress in the Mediterranean region.
The participants noted the privileged opportunity they have with this gathering where they expect to discuss all-out embryonic ideas tickling their mind; and/or reach an agreement and define a mission at an appropriate place and time. Thanks to its constant effort tirelessly throughout these years, Barcelona has become the centre of the Mediterranean, with Casa Llotja de Mar being the emblem of the North-South cooperation and the main source of inspiration for social and economic cooperation in the Mediterranean region.
On the occasion of the ninth anniversary, Casa Llotja goes further by carrying the voice of the Mediterranean to the G20. And this is legitimate for several reasons: ASCAME and its partners represent the dynamic core of the Mediterranean; the organized private sector achieves the integration of social and economic thinking of the region; regional progress pulls up all the countries of the region; the G20 better listen to the voice of the region which ultimately is one of the main pillars of global development; the Mediterranean Week of economic leaders has become the authorized path for the progress of the region.
It proposes a series of measures, tools and objectives, and fruits of common experience to raise and/or homogenise the “productivity” of the region; it widely deserves to be listened to and taken into consideration.
