Barcelona, 6th May 2019 – Access to finance was and will remain the key obstacle to the growth of SMEs, which is a key service that BSOs have to provide to their members. ASCAME, in the framework of the EBSOMED project, with GACIC, is taking part to the organisation of the Workshop “Donor Funding, Banking and Novel Financial Instruments in the MEDA region”, to be held in Cairo, Egypt, on 16-17 June 2019.

ASCAME, as responsible of the communication, is actively contributing to the project’s main objective ensuring the communication and capitalisation of the different thematic projects’ outcomes dealing with blue economy issues in the Mediterranean region to increase their impact towards commonly identified targets.

The objective of the MEDAFinance 2019 operation is to provide a comprehensive and updated list of funding opportunities that are available to BSOs, SMEs, grants, technical assistance and credit lines. The event shall equip EU and MED BSOs with the background of available programmes to enable them to draft international cooperation proposals. It will match-make BSOs with each other and with bilateral and multilateral donors and DFIs. It will raise awareness of BSOs of the channels and the response of various funded programmes, as well as the opportunity to mediate their needs to the decision-makers in DFI.

The 2-day event will provide information to BSOs and their members on EU funding opportunities and facilitate their participation in EU initiatives and programmes. It will, on the one hand, inform the BSOs about the programmes and channels for developing new projects to be lead by the BSOs addressing to support their members as the final beneficiaries.

The EBSOMED workshop will capitalise on the achievement of the MEDAFinance, acting as a regional coordinator for international projects development, linking potential partners from the region.
