For decades, the Government of Jordan has been collaborating with civil society organizations to support the well-being and empowerment of women. With an education system that ensures equal access to both genders, Jordan boasts a highly educated female population that has the potential to advance Jordan’s economic, social, and political development.

Though there has been significant progress, women in Jordan remain under-utilized and often sidelined due to enduring social norms and traditions that have stifled women’s advancement. Many programs promote gender equality by expanding the social dialogue to change discriminatory social norms and practices, strengthening policy enforcement and advocacy for female empowerment, improving services for women and encouraging women’s political and economic participation.

As for the economic role of Jordanian women, the latest statistics on the economic role of women show the high level of participation in various aspects of economic and social life, where:

– The percentage of women contribution to the Jordanian labour market is around (17%) of the total national employment.

– Economic participation of women in the Kingdom is (17%).

– Female workers in economic activities are distributed as follows: (2%) in the agricultural sector, (8%) in the manufacturing sector, (66.8%) in the services sector (education, health, banking, trade, energy, oil, mining, and ICT).

The Jordanian female accounted more than half of the staff of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, the thing that contributes significantly to achieving the objectives of the Chamber to serve the business community and enhance its competitiveness in international markets. And I praise the efforts of the Chamber’s Board in supporting and empowering Jordanian women in the business environment. Additionally, the Chamber is hosting the Mediterranean Women Entrepreneurs Forum over the period 2 – 3/10/2018.
