Countdown to MedaLogistics Week 2025, which will be held on the 18th and 19th of June in the framework of SIL Barcelona. Organized once again by ASCAME and Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona, in collaboration with the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Port of Barcelona, this new edition will focus on the Mediterranean as a pivotal hub for global trade and logistics. The summit, which has consolidated as the leading logistics, transport, intralogistics, and supply chain trade fair in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, will gather global leaders from ports, shipping lines, logistics firms, and international policymakers. In the last 20 editions, the summit has counted on 22.300 CEOs and more than 600 high-level speakers from the private sector, governments, and regional and international organizations from 35 countries. In total, over 38.000 business connections and B2B contacts have been made, which confirms the business opportunities that arise each year at this summit and the multiple investment options available to start-ups in the sector.
This year’s sessions will dive into the strategic position of the Mediterranean -connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa- in the global supply chain with 450 ports and terminals managing the 30% of global seaborne trade and volume. As a $4.3 trillion industry, logistics is the backbone of global commerce, driving competitiveness, investment, and job creation. In fact, the region’s future lies in leveraging its strategic position to integrate supply chains and enhance infrastructure to world-class standards.
On the other hand, holding MedaLogistics Week in Barcelona will give one more year to this city the international recognition as the main logistics hub in the Mediterranean, connecting the three continents. For instance, Port of Barcelona is one of the most important in Europe and in the Mediterranean, and the fourth in the global ranking, connecting with more than 850 ports worldwide. The Barcelona-El Prat airport is also a logistics hub of reference in the world, to which must be added the extensive network of infrastructures that allow Barcelona to lead in intermodal transport. Mr. Anwar Zibaoui, ASCAME’s General Coordinator, highlights that “Barcelona, due to its strategic location, capacity and infrastructures, has now the opportunity to consolidate itself as the capital of this cross-border cooperation, turning the great current and future challenges into great business and investment opportunities”.
MedaLogistics Week 2025: The sessions
Within this year’s edition, experts, CEOs and agents from the sector coming from the three continents will analyze the present and future challenges of the logistics and transport in the Mediterranean. One of the most important challenges faced by the industry is digital transformation, a topic which will be discussed from different perspectives: optimisation of processes in the supply chain –to reduce time and costs and to anticipate, prepare for and adapt to possible disruptions– impact of digital management systems and emerging technologies –such as AI or data analysis, regional connectivity (integrated logistics–, smart operations –operations measurement– and planning and strategy.
In the same way, several logistics start-ups in the Mediterranean that are making a difference will share their success stories and the technologies they use to streamline supply chains and facilitate the arrival of their products to the market. In this regard, the summit will analyze how to unlock the potential of young talent to drive innovation and inclusion in logistics. Experts will talk about supporting entrepreneurship in logistics and transport among Mediterranean youth, building diverse ecosystems for start-ups in the region, and showcasing technologies and programs designed to engage and empower young professionals.
Another topic to discuss will be cooperation in transport and logistics between Europe, Middle East and Africa. Speakers will explore how Mediterranean transport can increase their global significance and economic impact. They will talk about strategies for integrating Mediterranean economic operators into international projects and overcoming challenges to build trilateral partnerships between the three continents. In addition, experts will share some of the best practices for maximizing the potential of intercontinental trade routes. Besides, there will be specific debates on the role of public-private partnerships in achieving logistical excellence and insights on mitigating supply chain disruptions through regional collaboration.
Finally, the sustainable transition in the sector will be the other major backbone of MedaLogistics Week 2025. Currently, transport and logistics in general are one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions. The future of the sector lies in the implementation of clean technologies, the optimization and diversification of routes in the land transport of goods, greater investment in ecological vehicles, renewable energies and more sustainable alternative fuels such as NG or hydrogen.
