An efficient and sustainable logistics, key for the connection of both shores and the socio-economic development of the Mediterranean

Barcelona has been once again the place where the Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Mediterranean (ASCAME) and the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona, with the support of the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, have organized the MedaLogistics Summit. This Summit, that has become a reference event in the Mediterranean logistics and transport sector, has taken place on the 26th and 27th of June in the framework of the Logistics, Transport, Intralogistics and Supply Chain leading congress in Southern Europe (SIL 2019).

Barcelona, 04 April 2016 – The logistics and transport sectors are experiencing a radical transformation, with new actors and regional powers emerging as international centers of distribution. The Mediterranean countries enjoy a privileged position in the international logistic market for the economic competitiveness of the region.


EUROMED Invest gathered more than 50 Organizations from across the Mediterranean

ASCAME leads the Meda Logistics Roadshow in the framework of the Medi-terranean Logistics and Transport Summit.

For two days, Barcelona has been the meeting point for over 300 leaders on the 9th and 10th of June in the Logistics & Transport sector at the Mediterranean Logistic & Transport Summit, the largest European and Mediterranean platform organized in the framework of the 17th edition of the International Logistics and Material Handling Exhibition in Barcelona (SIL 2015).

In the framework of the Mediterranean Logistics and Transport Summit, the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce (ASCAME), organized in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Barcelona, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount-Lebanon and the Confederation of Egyptian European Business Associations (CEEBA), the Meda Logistics Roadshow in the framework of the project EUROMED Invest.

The MEDA-LOGISTICS & TRANSPORT Roadshow promoted economic exchanges between Northern and Southern of the Mediterranean countries at SIL 2015, organizing a Mediterranean Pavilion with different business activities between transport and logistics operators.

Different activities were carried out in parallel such as B2B meetings & B2Goverments, which consisted of short scheduled meetings between companies from both sides of the Mediterranean as well as between public bodies that met their Spanish and European counterparts. Workshops & Presentations about investment opportunities in Lebanon, Egypt and Tunisia were carried out.

Beside this, the HOMERe project was presented whose objective is to increase employability for high-level post graduates in the region. Furthermore a presentation of the Enterprise Europe Network was carried out in order to present the initiative as a key instrument in the EU's strategy to boost growth and jobs in the Mediterranean region.

On the occasion of this roadshow, the OPTIMED Project was presented to the participants (institutions and transport and logistics companies) in order to foster the pioneering initiative of the virtual logistics platform aiming at improving shipping trade - in timing and freight costs - within the Mediterranean basin and especially between Lebanon, Italy, Spain and France.

Furthermore, the Med Pavilion was performed of a Networking space, an exclusive space where companies had the opportunity to meet and exchange business cards. Besides this, participants could attend different Helpdesks of Investment Promotion Actors, in order to be informed about how boosting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) between north and south.

The participants at the Market Business Exchange  in the Med Pavilion included International Delegations with different profiles such as shippers (retailers and manufacturers), 3PLs, 4PLs, Carriers (road, rail, sea, air), Freight forwarders, Ports,  Energy Providers, Consultants and Technology Solutions companies and Transportation Industry brought together.

More than 50 organizations from across the Mediterranean could exchange their business ideas and projects as well as sharing strategies for future collaborations.

EUROMED Invest is a project that will last 3 years (2013-2016) co- financed at 80% by the European Commission for a global amount of 5 million of Euros. It is co- financed by ANIMA Investment Network, in the frame of the consortium MedAlliance.

The ultimate goal of EUROMED Invest is to boost private business and investment within the Euro-Med area to contribute to an inclusive economic development of the region.

The specific objective of the project is to empower Euro-Med business and investment networks to implement targeted strategies supporting the creation and the international development of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in order to boost private business and investment within the Euro-Mediterranean area.

ASCAME organizes the annual Ports and Shipping conference for Europe, Middle East and Africa

The 8th Meda Ports Summit in Barcelona, “looking beyond the sea”, will take place on June 10th 

On the tenth of June ASCAME will organize the 8th Mediterranean Ports Summit in the framework of the International Logistics and Material Handling Exhibition (SIL 2015), in Barcelona.


The forum is co-organized by ASCAME, the Consorci of the Barcelona Free Zone and SIL. The forum will be sponsored by the Port of Barcelona and will count the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce as institutional partner.

The 8th Mediterranean Ports and Shipping Summit is one of the largest annual Ports and Shipping Conferences throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa. It serves to establish a specialized framework for the port sector and provides further information regarding the state of the investments and the management of the port infrastructures of the Mediterranean coastal region, with eyes set on the new boost experienced by the Mediterranean area.

The Mediterranean Port Summit gathers maritime industry leaders. The program features many top industry professionals sharing their perspectives on port investments and terminal developments around the region, providing invaluable insights into the numerous opportunities in this sector.

Under the slogan “Looking beyond the sea”  the summit will focus on key concepts such as institutional and fiscal reforms; the construction, extension and modernization of port platforms; the search for management and collaboration systems; the promotion of alliances to strengthen the position of world leadership; Mediterranean’s Ports a Gateway to Europe, Asia and Africa; the Port, City and Cruise Tourism, as well as the response of Mediterranean ports to the challenges brought by 800 million people.

The event will also be held in the framework of the OPTIMED project, which is co-financed by the European Union through the ENPI CBC MED programme, and aims improving commercial connections in transport and logistics between public and private operators of Lebanon, Italy, Spain and France.

In the frame-work of the EUROMED Invest and OPTIMED projects, the Meda Logistics & Transport Roadshow will promote the South ENPI countries together at SIL 2015, organizing a MED Pavilion and B2B meetings for visiting SMEs from the southern and eastern Mediterranean.

This year will be focused on the 20 years since Barcelona Process and the future of the shipping markets, which is of vital interest to operators, companies, key investors in shipping, regulators, port and terminal authorities.
