ASCAME boosts Green SMEs in the Mediterranean area through FIREMED platform

Energy sector SMEs in the Mediterranean area now have an online platform to support access to finance for. The platform has been developed through the FIREMED project, which is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, within the framework of the Programme MED, and is accessible at

The objective of the project is to approach both Local and Regional Authorities, and Financial Operators supporting energy sector SMEs development, and proposing innovative financial instruments for use in Local Development plans, and innovative services that improve matching between SMEs in search of financial means and Investors.

FIREMED has launched a technical assistance to SMEs which consists in providing energy-sector SMEs and Start-ups with assistance to make their business plan more consistent with financial operators’ requirements in the following platform “”.

Energy sector SMEs in MED area are considered a strategic development asset for the area due to abundance of renewable energy resources available and the increasing demand of energy coming from the industrial sectors and urban developments. The link between energy sector SMEs and sustainable development is clear to all actors working for the economic development of MED countries.

Thanks to this platform, FIREMED will support Green SMEs to enhance European Energies Services that are delivered through the Platform. Each Partner Region will choose and test some of the described Services, selecting those better matching with the local needs, in order to set up activities between SMEs and financial operators/investors.

In addition to this service, the platform will offer a “European Funding Alert Service” for energy SMEs and Regional and Local Authorities. Technical assistance will be given to SMEs to elaborate financial plans according to private investors’ expectations.

The aim of this platform is to help SMEs in reaching detailed information concerning the energy sector: characteristics, needs and barriers that affect companies’ development, most suitable types of funding, or more information on profitability of the specific sector.

The project covers the territories of 11 MED Regions (Veneto, Lombardy, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Rhone Alpes, Andalucía, Catalonia, Valencia Peloponnese, South Aegean, Cyprus, Istria) from 7 countries (6 EU & 1 IPA): Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia and  Croatia.
