Barcelona, July 2, 2018 – ASCAME, BUSINESSMED, Anima, EUROCHAMBRES and others consortium partners presented on 28th June in Tunis the new regional EBSOMED Project recently launched. The aim of ASCAME and its members involved in this 4-year project -co-funded by the European Union- is mainly to enhance Business Support Organisations (BSO) and business networks in the Southern Neighbourhood, by highlighting also the engagement of the European Union in promoting the Euro-Mediterranean private sector ecosystem and a more inclusive economic growth.

This joint initiative will reinforce chamber of commerce and business support organisations’ management capacity and efficiency, particularly in support to SMEs’ internationalisation, by providing programmes to improve the services offered by the Business Support Organisations, and a set of instruments such as Roadshows, B2B meetings and workshops on access to the EU initiatives and programmes.

Throughout this project ASCAME will promote alternative sources of financing for SMEs, helping them as well to access specific measures to promote access to bank financing such as credit guarantee schemes, non-banking financing (microfinance, leasing, factoring, etc.), venture capital and business angel networks.

We will also pay a particular attention to supporting the key priorities that tackle the inclusive and sustainable growth, through the consolidation of a regional strategy and action plans to strengthen business partnerships in the Southern Neighbourhood.

ASCAME will be one of the main actors of the project due to the strategic priority that EBSOMED gives to business support organisations such as the chambers of commerce of the Mediterranean region, which a vast majority are ASCAME’s members. Within the framework of the project, ASCAME will implement several cross-sectorial activities targeting BSOs and SMEs aiming at:

  • Improving competences of Business Support Organisations such as Chamber of commerce
  • Building a large, robust and efficient BSO network among EuroMed region
  • Maximising business exchanges and investment

In sum, our common aim is promoting growth and create sustainability in the region with self-sustainable financial projects. And, in this line, the next event of the project (EBSOMED RoadShow: Incorporation of Women entrepreneurs in digital economy) will take place in Amman (Jordan) next 2-3 October in the framework one of the main ASCAME flagship events Mediterranean Women Entrepreneurs Forum (MedaWomen 2018).

ASCAME is the voice of the economy and private sector before major institutional and economic actors, helping the Chambers to promote and participate with their own voice in the key areas of Mediterranean development and offer a coordinated and synergistic response. Through ASCAME, the chambers influence and participate in the key issues that drive and condition development and growth, offering a perspective clearly focused on the Mediterranean area.  Lastly, ASCAME represents the business interests of the Mediterranean chambers and companies by working closely with policymakers, stakeholders and opinion leaders.
