Barcelona, 07 February 2018 –During the last ASCAME General Assembly -which took place last 22 November in the framework of the 11th MedaWeek Barcelona in Barcelona- the Association approved the creation of three new Working Commissions : Agrifood, Integrity Values & Business Ethics and Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Events.

The Agrifood sector is considered as a key driver of the Mediterranean growth due to the region’s huge potential in innovation for agriculture and rural development and the opportunities it offers to the private sector. In this regard, the Moroccan Chamber of Commerce of Fès-Meknés proposed to the ASCAME General Assembly -last November 2017 in Barcelona- the creation of the Working Commission on Agrifood in order to promote the sector-related activities in in the region. Concretely, the Commission will establish a state of the art of the sector’s challenges and development perspective as well as the needed information to consolidate the agrifood sector in the international market.

Following the ASCAME strategic orientations to foster business ethics practices within the region’s private sector, the General Assembly also approved the creation of the Working Commission on Integrity Values and Business Ethics. Chaired by the Federation of Lebanese Chambers of Commerce, this Commission will follow the objectives to emphasize the importance of proper ‘Corporate Governance’ practices, and assist in their effective implementation at all levels. The Commission will also create practical application guidelines and develop sector specific toolkits leading to tangible benefits from the execution of the above principles and others that promote Integrity, Anti-Corruption, Transparency…etc.

It is known that the meetings Industry further provides immense benefits to the broader economy as it generates on average a higher spending level, reduces seasonality, contributes to the regeneration of destinations, spreads knowledge and enhances innovation and creativity. In order to promote a better networking and business exchange environment among ASCAME members, while increasing the awareness of the MICE industry in the region, the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and Industry will chair the new Working Commission on Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Events (MICE).

ASCAME’s Working Commissions represent the heart of the Association, and the ideas lab for proposals and programmes that allows ASCAME to focus on the main objectives of its strategic plan. The objectives of these Commissions aim at identifying and taking advantage of the opportunities of the most strategic economic sectors in the Mediterranean, for the benefit of the economic and social development in the region.
